4. Always remain professional. Even if the place you work is super laid back, everyone swears, short and flip-flops are appropriate attire, etc. There should always be a sense of professionalism about you. By that I mean being competent, always striving to be better, avoiding personal drama (gossip alone can come back to huant you), and maintaining proper heirarchy relationships. By the last I mean that it ok to talk about some things with your boss or those that work for you. However, getting too close can compromise you work relationship, especially if it is with those that work for you. Fastest way to lose respect of those that work for you is to be their best buddies.
I agree, very sensible advice Kaylos. You obviously have a good understanding of the working environment.
Try not to get caught up in the politics. Pick a few chapters from "How to win friends and influence people", its a timeless book if you want some examples on "HOW" to work.
Also, something I strongly believe especially when it comes to work is dont take a job for what it pays but what it can teach you. Time and time again I see people get caught in this trap without thinking about their endgame.
What do you see yourself doing when you get old?
Do you want your own business?
Do you want a steady career/job with good benefits?
Im exactly where I want to be because I know exactly what I want to do and Ive laid the foundation at a young age and proactively sought out the skills which will get me to where I want to be.
Every year you work in a job you don't like is 1 year wasted in terms of accumulating the right skill set for the future. Time is too precious.
